If you are using a different version, you may need to first download the free Power Query add-in from the Microsoft site. At the time I\u2019m writing this, it is available from the link below.<\/p>\n<p>The four easy steps we\u2019ll use to unpivot our crosstab data are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Store the crosstab data in a table<\/li>\n<li>Get &amp; Transform From Table<\/li>\n<li>Unpivot<\/li>\n<li>Load<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We\u2019ll take them one at a time.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Store_the_crosstab_data_in_a_table\"><\/span>Store the crosstab data in a table<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>First, we need to ensure that our crosstab data is stored in a table. If it already is, you can skip this step. Our data isn\u2019t stored in a table, and it currently looks like this.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.excel-university.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20160526b.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.excel-university.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20160526b.png 418w, https:\/\/www.excel-university.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/20160526b-300x105.png 300w\" alt=\"Crosstab data by Jeff Lenning\" width=\"418\" height=\"146\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To convert it into a table, we\u00a0select any cell in the data range and click the Insert &gt; Table command. Let\u2019s move to the next step.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Get_Transform_From_Table\"><\/span>Get &amp; Transform From Table<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The next step is to use the Get &amp; Transform From Table command. Again, this is built-in\u00a0beginning with Excel 2016 for Windows. If you have a different version, you\u2019ll want to download and install Power Query using the link below, and note that the navigation may be slightly different from the screenshots presented below.<\/p>\n<p>First, we select any cell in the table. To do this, we can select the first column we want to unpivot, hold down the Shift key, and then click the last column. To do so, we use the Close &amp; Load command on the Home tab.
