for\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"appliesToItem\">Mac<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0and for\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"appliesToItem\">web<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-parameter-list field-type-ds field-label-above\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-parameters field-type-parameter-field field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<div class=\"item-list\">\n<p><span class=\"\">Although\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kalkulacija.com\/wordpress\/2021\/12\/13\/istorijat-dodavanja-formula-u-excelu\/\"><span class=\"\">Excel<\/span><\/a><span class=\"\">\u00a0appeared in 1987, it was only in the years of the pandemic that it underwent revolutionary changes.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\">Okay, maybe some more versions of Excel can get that adjective, but the advent of the LAMBDA function allows the user to create their own function without the need to know programming, Visual Basic, and the like.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The whole idea of \u200b\u200bexpanding the set of functions did not come by chance.\u00a0You can read more about this in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/research\/blog\/lambda-the-ultimatae-excel-worksheet-function\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft Blog<\/a>\u00a0and the indisputable contribution of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alonzo_Church\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alonzo Church<\/a>\u00a0, who made a great contribution to mathematical logic and the theory of computer science.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, the whole story of how to create a function in Excel using LAMBDA is actually the process of converting a formula into a function.\u00a0<span class=\"\">If you are worried about the concept of a function or formula in Excel, you can read more about it in our Excel.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Simply, the first parameter of this function are the variables that we will use and the formula itself, which can be purely mathematical or formed from existing functions in excel.\u00a0For the simplest example, I used the variable ri mathematical formula of the square r * r.<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3303 size-full\" alt=\"\" width=\"711\" height=\"322\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>This simplest example is pointless to use, but it is good for us to write our first LAMBDA function.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_create_a_new_function_in_Excel_using_LAMBDA\"><\/span><span class=\"\">Why create a new function in Excel using LAMBDA<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you are ready to create your first custom function, keep in mind that it is not the same when you use\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/lambda-function-bd212d27-1cd1-4321-a34a-ccbf254b8b67\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the LAMBDA function<\/a>\u00a0in a table cell or when it is named as a new function.<\/p>\n<p>The syntax of the function is: = LAMBDA (variable,\u2026, formula)<\/p>\n<p>LAMBDA functions are usually created and debugged in the formula bar on the worksheet, and then moved to the name manager to assign a name that can be used anywhere in the workbook.<\/p>\n<p>There are four basic steps to creating and using a custom LAMBDA feature:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Check the logic you will use with the standard formula<\/li>\n<li>Create and test a generic (unnamed) LAMBDA version of the formula<\/li>\n<li>Name and define the LAMBDA formula using the name manager<\/li>\n<li>Call a new custom function with a defined name<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The examples below discuss these steps in more detail.<\/p>\n<h3><span function.\u00a0As you can see in the picture, there are ordinal numbers in the first column, and in the second column, the LAMBDA function is called after the equals sign.<\/p>\n<figure (lowercase letter r) the second parameter is the formula itself, in this case simple when multiplying r times r.<\/p>\n<p>Behind the closed parenthesis are the cell addresses from the worksheet whose
